Request to remove a deceased horse chestnut tree from the garden due to severe signs of Polyporus squamosus and risk of structural failure. The tree is adjacent to a public area, posing a safety risk. Proposal includes replanting a new tree of an alternative species.

Proposal as recorded

Dear Stockport Council, I am writing to request permission to remove a deceased horse chestnut tree from our garden. We have been monitoring this tree closely for approximately two years, and it is now showing severe signs of Polyporus squamosus. This year the decline has progressed rapidly, with significant fungal growth present throughout the trunk. As the tree is positioned adjacent to a public area, we are concerned that it now poses a substantial risk of structural failure. For the safety of the public and surrounding property, we believe removal is the most responsible course of action. We propose to remove the tree to just above ground level. In doing so, we are happy to replant a new tree of an alternative species, as we are committed to preserving and protecting trees wherever possible. Unfortunately, due to its current condition, this particular tree now presents too great a hazard to retain. We kindly ask for your approval to proceed. TPO number 48W
